The beginning of the town of Palmyra was a lot of 56 lots laid off by James Cave. This village
was called Newburg and recorded on April 26, 1836. Considering there was another town called
Newburg in the state the name was changed to Cummington about1842. Thinking land west af
forded a better building location, a new town a short mile west was laid out by D.N. Solomon, J.F.
Nifong and Hezekiah Berry in 1855. . .
